Introducing Tara, The Diabetes Dietitian (Clarkston, MI)
Tara is a registered dietitian, certified diabetes care & education specialist and CEO of The Diabetes Dietitian, LLC. She has worked for over a decade to help people who have diabetes manage their blood sugars and lower their A1C -- without giving up the foods they love!
I have had the pleasure of working with Tara and her family many times over the years. I have taken photos of her two sweet boys since her oldest turned 1 -- in what is still my favorite cakesmash session ever : )
But this particular session was alllllll for her.
I was so excited when Tara told me about her business venture and asked me to come support her with new brand photos. Please take a peek below to hear about her business, her photoshoot experience and see a few of her updated photos!
What inspired you to begin your business?
"I was the diabetes program coordinator for a large hospital system for almost 10 years and SO much of what patients could do for education was dictated by insurance. I knew there had to be a better way for patients to lower their blood sugars and have more access to a dietitian.
My favorite part of being a dietitian is when patients have that “a-ha” moment and start seeing results from true lifestyle changes."
Are there any resources that have really helped you uplevel your business?
"I hired Stephanie with The Leveraged Practice as a business coach/mentor and she has been fantastic! I also signed up for their software platform for dietitians and it’s a really great one stop shop for digital marketing and course creating.
I also highly recommend Atomic Habits by James Clear."
What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?
"Put your blinders on and focus on what you’re providing to people and how your services are going to help. Stop comparing yourself to everyone else.
If I started over today, I would not waste so much time learning and watching others. I would dive in, even when it fails and is not perfect."
What was your #1 biggest challenge prior to doing a personal brand shoot?
"Having pictures for my website, online courses and social media with ME in them…ones that weren’t selfies 😆 and looked professional. I had a harder time posting to social media without a library of photos to use."
What changed after getting your images?
"Well I loved them, and I honestly didn’t expect that. I felt good in the images and felt more confident using the branding photos on my sales page and posts."
What would you say to somebody on the fence about booking a shoot?
"Do it!! You can write it off as a business expense and you will find so many places to use the photos -- more than you had originally planned. You will feel more confident in selling your service with photos that look professional but still look like you."
Anything else to add?
"I was really nervous and Kasey made me feel so comfortable! She really made it fun and very easy to relax in front of the camera. I would recommend getting hair and makeup done. It added to the confidence during the photo shoot."
